Meeting Notes From First Parent Meeting

Prairie View High School introduced Coach Startzer to the Parent Community on Thursday, April 21, 2016.  Here is what was shared during the meeting:

Heath Wilson opened the meeting by explaining the interview process and introducing Coach Startzer to the community.  Coach Startzer's agenda included a review of his coaching history, a look at the mission of the football program, his philosophy, discipline, playing time, summer calendar, Champions Club, player evaluation, player safety weight room requirements, and commonly asked questions.  Some highlights included:

  • Coach Startzer, and the entire coaching staff is here because we CARE ABOUT YOUR SON and his success.  The coaching staff wants the same things that you do:  that your son enjoys the game, that your son is successful, and that your son is safe.

  • The mission is to pursue excellence in everything that we do, in the classroom, in the community, and on the field.

  • The Football Program is "one spoke in the wheel" of the high school experience.  It is important to maintain perspective and value the entire experience.  As such, the coaching staff values multi-sport athletes, proper rest and recovery, and character development within the program.

  • As a program, we will set the bar high... in fact, very high.  We will reinforce a "Law of the Farm" principle - in that there are no shortcuts. One must plant a seed (like a farmer), and constantly tend to his plants and fields, and harvest in the fall.  The "Law of the Farm" allows for no skipped days, no 'cramming' in September --- either the work has been done, or it hasn't.

  • Points of emphasis included player safety (through intentional practice design, team trainer protocols, hydration protocols, etc.), Champions Club (year round measurement program emphasizing achievement in the classroom, attendance, spring and winter sports programs, and weight room attendance), and playing time guidelines that will be in use for the 2016 season.

  • Next Steps?  All parents and players need to fill out the Player Inventory, under the TEAM menu item above.  Current Varsity players will have voluntary spring practice from May 16 - May 20th.  Incoming Freshman football players first day is on June 6, 2016 to summer weights.

There were many questions from parents and community members, many of which we tried to capture in our Frequently Asked Questions section. Also, here is a copy of the PowerPoint Presentation that Coach Startzer shared at the Parent Meeting.
